Gun Barrel City is located in the heart of Cedar Creek Lake. Incorporated in 1969, Gun Barrel City has grown from a small rural community with a few subdivisions on Cedar Creek Lake to a thriving city with a population of about 6,000 people and is the second largest city in Henderson County.

Main Street in Gun Barrel City sees a normal winter traffic flow of more than 18,000 cars per day. This number increases dramatically in the spring, summer and fall when the “weekender” and visitor population bring thousands more into the area to enjoy the lake.

In 2001, Gun Barrel City’s 150 retail merchants produced $85,358,285 in taxable retail sales. Where taxable retail sales are concerned, the City ranks 15th of 115 Texas cities with populations of between 5,000 and 10,000.
